Jazz in Japan

Last Friday and Saturday I spent exploring the jazz scene in Japan. On Friday, a friend and I went to an outdoor jazz festival in a small nearby city (Takastuki). For 7 hours, we wandered from cafe, to temple, to bar, to park listening to the most wonderful jazz, bossa nova, blues, and fusion music. Saturday night we had a girls night out in Kyoto and spent the evening sipping delicious drinks in a tiny basement jazz piano bar we all decided that we would be frequenting much more often.

Hi Jane!
I hear jazz musicians in Japan and Europe receive much more respect than they do in the States. They get paid more, and people are more attentive to their music. It would be interesting to attend a jazz concert in Japan.

I remember the first night I visited you in Paris and you took me to see Henri Texier, that charming bass player. I can't remember what the crowd was like because I was delirious from being awake for 36 hours. But I remember his cute little hat on his big but cute head, and I also remember how much I enjoyed his stories and his playing.
